A reflexology treatment may leave you feeling thoroughly relaxed and invigorated with a sense of calmness and an increased sense of wellbeing. Stress and tension that you have been carrying has melted away.
To maximize and prolong the effects of the treatment here are some simple after care advice tips that I recommend to my clients.
It is very important to drink plenty of water after a reflexology session. You can drink plain water, water with lemon and ginger or have some herbal teas. Make sure you are sipping the drink and not drinking quickly.
Water helps to assist the elimination process.
Have light meals after your reflexology treatment such as soup or salad with some added protein (chicken, fish, beans or lentils) would be perfect.
Avoid spicy and fatty foods as they can put extra strain on your digestive system.
Ideally avoid stimulants (for 24 hours) such as caffeine (coffee, tea, cola drinks, chocolate), alcohol, tobacco. If this is not possible to avoid caffeine, ensure to drink extra water to prevent dehydration.
Enjoy a quiet afternoon or evening after the treatment.
After your session rest and relax, avoid any energetic activity for the next few hours. Ideally have a reflexology treatment on a day that you do not have much planned and you can rest and relax afterwards.
Maybe read a book or a magazine, listen to calming music or sit in the garden and enjoy the weather.
You may feel a bit emotional after a treatment so keeping notes in a journal about how you feel afterwards may help. Let go of any unwanted feelings, do not hold them and do not try to bottle them in. Write them down on paper and release them.
You may feel emotional, irritable, full of energy or very calm and positive. It is worth noting down how you are feeling especially if your next treatment is a month away!
I always ask my clients how they felt after their previous session and it is so easy to forget, so writing down any feelings/reactions is a good idea.
Usually clients feel much better after a treatment, but occasionally some individuals may have a reaction to and experience a mild headache, or feeling tired.
After a treatment it is also possible that some symptoms may get slightly worse or you may feel more emotional. These are normal reactions and should pass within 24 to 48 hours.

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to medical advice.
