1 Minute Self Care Worry Buster

As the children are returning to school after a long summer holiday, for some of them it may be an anxious time. Starting at a new school can bring even more worry and uncertainty and this may impact the mental health and wellbeing of a child.

Changes are rarely easy and most of us like to keep to a simple routine. A lot of anxiety can be caused because of the fear of the unknown and for children this can be especially difficult.

Worry Buster Technique

If you think your child is feeling anxious or nervous about going back to school try these simple Facial Reflexology techniques they can really help to calm the body and mind.

  • Make sure your child is lying down for example on a comfortable bed, with a fluffy blanket and a favourite toy.
  • Put some calming relaxing music on.
  • Ask them to breath in slowly for a count of 3, hold for a count of 2, then breath out slowly for a count of 4, this helps calm the nervous system.
  • Gently tap your fingers on top of the head and around the head for 30 seconds.
  • Start making a small circular movement around the centre of the forehead, slowly and with gentle pressure. The circular movements can be extended to cover the whole forehead area.
  • Gently press your index finger in an upwards direction at the base of the eyebrows, hold for 3 seconds and repeat 3 times.
  • Gently press your index finger in the middle of the cheek bone, hold for 3 seconds and repeat 3 times.

This simple routine can be repeated daily for example before bedtime; and with practice some children may be able to follow the routine by themselves.
